Natural Cassava Low-Dust Cat Litter Cubic Pack

We made cat litter out of the tapioca plant. Your cat will not care. You will.

Cassava is the root behind tapioca pearls — a starchy, fast-growing plant crop. It also turns out to be very good at one specific job: wrapping itself around liquid and setting hard. That is the whole idea behind this litter. No perfume, no clay, no mining. Just a plant-starch granule that grabs what it is supposed to grab and lets you lift it out in one piece.

What it does well

• Rock-hard clumping. Cassava starch sets around liquid rather than crumbling into it. Clumps come out whole, which means less clean litter goes in the bin with every scoop — and a bag lasts longer than the weight on the bag suggests.
• Zero added scent. No perfume, no floral masking agent. Just the neutral smell of cassava. If your cat has walked away from a scented litter before, this is why.
• Serious odor control. Baking soda and blue volcanic rock work on ammonia at the source instead of covering it. The box stays neutral between scoops rather than smelling like flowers and ammonia at once.
• Plant-based, not mined. Cassava is a renewable root crop. Clumping clay is strip-mined sodium bentonite. That is the difference in one line.
• Low dust when you pour. It is a plant-starch granule, not crushed mineral, so filling the box does not raise a cloud.

Read this before your first bag: fill it deeper than you think

At least 3 inches. About 7 cm. More if you have more than one cat.

This is the single thing that separates people who love cassava litter from people who give up on it, and it has nothing to do with the litter itself.

Cassava clumps by wrapping liquid in starch. It needs enough depth underneath to finish that job before the liquid reaches the bottom of the pan. Fill it shallow and urine hits the plastic, where it sets against the pan floor instead of forming a free-floating clump. You then have to scrape it off, and it feels like the litter failed. It did not — the bed was too thin.

Fill to depth and the same litter lifts out in one clean piece.

How to use it

1. Fill to 3 inches (7 cm) minimum. Four inches in a multi-cat home is not excessive.
2. Scoop once or twice a day. Clumps firm up within minutes — there is no benefit to waiting longer.
3. Top up weekly. Add fresh litter to bring the bed back to depth. Depth is what keeps it working; a box that has drifted down to an inch will start cementing again.
4. Use a rigid scoop. These clumps are genuinely hard. A flimsy plastic scoop will bend before the clump does. Metal or stiff plastic, one pass, done.
5. Switching from another litter? 25% new → 50% → 100% over 7–10 days if your cat dislikes change.

If a clump ever sticks to the bottom of the pan, that is a depth problem, not a defect. Add litter and the next one will lift clean.

Two things we would rather you hear from us

It feels like fine sand, not pellets

The granules are roughly 2 mm — soft and sand-like, much finer than wood or paper pellets. Most cats take to it right away because it feels close to what they would dig in outdoors.

The trade-off is real: fine granules travel. Some will leave the box on your cat’s paws and end up on the floor. This is not a low-tracking litter and we are not going to tell you it is. A large mat in front of the box catches most of it, a covered or high-sided box catches more, and a robot vacuum on a schedule handles the rest. If tracking is your number one concern above everything else, a large-pellet litter will suit you better than this one — we would rather say that than have you find out after you have paid for it.

The clumps are hard on purpose

Hard clumps are the point: they do not crumble back into the clean litter, which is why a bag goes further. The flip side is that a cheap scoop will fight you, and a shallow bed will cement. Both are solved by the two lines above — rigid scoop, 3 inches of depth.

Cassava vs. clumping clay

Those blue flecks are volcanic rock

Open the bag and you will see scattered blue granules through the white. That is crushed Borichi volcanic rock — just 1–2% of the mix. It is a mineral, not a dye and not a fragrance. Volcanic rock is porous, so it traps odour inside the granule instead of masking it with perfume. Together with baking soda, it is what does the work on ammonia.

Questions we actually get

How deep should I really fill it?

At least 3 inches (7 cm); 4 inches with more than one cat. This matters more with cassava than with clay. A shallow bed lets urine reach the pan floor, where it sets against the plastic instead of forming a clump you can lift out.

Does it track?

Yes, some. The granules are fine and sand-like, so a little will leave the box on your cat’s paws. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you a “zero tracking” promise that no litter can keep. A large mat handles most of it.

Can I flush it?

No. This formula is not flushable — scoop it into the trash.

Is it dusty?

Very little when pouring. It is a plant-starch granule rather than crushed mineral, so there is no fine mineral dust cloud when you fill the box.

Is it safe if my cat licks its paws?

The formula is plant-based with no added fragrance. As with any litter, it is made to be dug in, not eaten. Kittens under four months should start on a litter formulated for kittens.

My cat hates change. Will it switch?

Most cats switch without noticing — the sand-like texture is familiar to them. If yours is fussy, blend it in: 25% new, then 50%, then 100% across 7–10 days.

Why does it cost more than clay?

Cassava is a farmed crop that has to be processed into a granule; bentonite is dug out of the ground. You are also getting harder clumps, which means less litter leaves the box with each scoop — the cost per week is closer than the cost per bag suggests.
