Tuft & Paw vs Noisy Lion: an honest tofu litter comparison

I started Noisy Lion after my own cat, Lion, was diagnosed with feline asthma in 2022. His vet was blunt: get him off dusty clay. I could not find a plant-based litter with a real test report behind it — so I built one, starting on my kitchen counter in Mississauga.
If you have seen a beautiful litter ad on Instagram or TikTok lately, it was probably Tuft & Paw. Their Really Great Cat Litter has more than 11,000 reviews, a gorgeous brand, and — here is the part most people miss — it is a soy-fibre litter, just like ours. So this comparison is not about whose plant is better. It is about what you actually pay per kilo, what stands behind the dust claims, and which litter is built around a Canadian home.

The bottom line
Tuft & Paw makes a genuinely good tofu litter with a premium design brand around it — priced in US dollars at roughly twice the per-kilo cost of ours. Noisy Lion is the same plant-based idea, developed in Canada, with dust and odour numbers independently lab-verified and published, natural and undyed, priced like an essential — and we donate litter to shelters. If you are paying for the litter, not the lifestyle brand, that is the difference.
Both of us are more than “just tofu” — and that is fine
Per Tuft & Paw’s own FAQ, Really Great Cat Litter is soybean fibre plus calcium carbonate, corn starch and pea fibre, and their OdorStop formula is described as a mixed tofu litter. We are transparent about the same thing: some Noisy Lion formulas are pure tofu, some are engineered tofu-bentonite blends. Nobody serious sells you a bag of plain soybeans — performance litter is a recipe. The real question is whose recipe is tuned for your home, and who shows you the lab numbers. Ours are validated in an independent CTI lab and published in full.

Same plant, very different bill
Really Great Cat Litter is US$29 for a 4.2 kg bag — about US$6.90 per kilo, or roughly C$9+ per kilo once you convert (and their best 5-pack rate still lands around C$7.80/kg, exchange rates approximate as of July 2026). Our 12 kg value bag is C$54.99 — C$4.58 per kilo, in Canadian dollars, with no border math. Litter is something you rebuy every month. Over a year, that gap is not a rounding error; it is hundreds of dollars for the same category of plant-based litter.
“99% dust-free” is a claim. A published lab report is proof.
Tuft & Paw says their litter is triple-screened and 99% dust-free, and I have no reason to doubt they screen it well. But it is still a brand statement on a product page. I send every Noisy Lion formula to an independent lab, CTI, and publish the full report: 99.9% dust-free (0.1% powder content) and 99.1% deodorisation, method and report number included. Our litter is also natural and undyed. When the reason you are switching is your cat’s lungs — asthma is why this company exists — you want the number in writing from someone who does not work for the brand.

Built for Canadian homes — and it gives back
Tuft & Paw is a beautiful brand sold across North America in US dollars. Noisy Lion is developed and run from Mississauga: formulas, scents and pack sizes tuned to homes here — dry winters that make cheap litter dustier, condos where the box sits two metres from the couch, and prices in the currency you are paid in. And because we keep the brand lean, we give back: Noisy Lion regularly donates litter to shelters and charities. Your rebuy funds litter for cats waiting on adoption, not a lifestyle photoshoot.

Straight talk
Tuft & Paw earns its reputation: the design is lovely, the reviews are real (4.4★ across more than 11,000), and their litter boxes and furniture are some of the nicest made. If you want the full aesthetic ecosystem and the price does not bother you, you will be happy. Our case is simpler: for the bag your cat actually pees in, you can get lab-published performance, undyed pellets and a Canadian brand for about half the per-kilo cost — and part of that saving goes to shelter cats.
Pay for the litter, not the lifestyle brand
Both are good soy-based litters — that is exactly the point. Tuft & Paw wraps theirs in a premium USD brand; Noisy Lion puts the budget into the litter itself: independently lab-verified low dust and odour control, natural and undyed, tuned for Canadian homes, C$4.58/kg on the 12 kg bag, and litter donated to shelters with every month you stay. If you are choosing on proof and value, we are the better buy.
100% money-back on your first 2-pack.Is Tuft & Paw litter the same as tofu litter?
Essentially yes — per their FAQ it is soybean fibre with calcium carbonate, corn starch and pea fibre. It is the same plant-based family as Noisy Lion tofu litter, which is why the price gap per kilo is worth a hard look.
Is Noisy Lion cheaper than Tuft & Paw?
Per kilo, substantially — C$4.58/kg on our 12 kg bag versus roughly C$9+/kg for a single Tuft & Paw bag once converted from USD (July 2026, approximate). Even against their best 5-pack rate we come in around 40% lower.
Is Noisy Lion really dust-free?
Independently verified — 99.9% dust-free (0.1% powder) under CTI report A2260218535101001E, published in full on our site. Low dust is the reason the company exists: my cat’s asthma.
Are both litters flushable?
Both brands market flushable formats, but what you can flush depends on your municipality and your plumbing. We wrote an honest guide on that — see Is Tofu Cat Litter Flushable in Canada?
Does Noisy Lion give back?
Yes — we regularly donate litter to shelters and charities. See our Community Impact page.
Is Tuft & Paw a bad choice?
Not at all — it is a well-made litter with a strong following. Our case is that Noisy Lion delivers the same plant-based performance with a published independent lab report, in CAD, at about half the per-kilo price, from a Canadian brand that donates to shelters.
