What is tofu cat litter made of?
The base is pea fibre plus corn and plant starch — the same food-grade ingredients used in tofu production. How do you make tofu cat litter?

Can you make it at home from actual tofu? Honestly, no — home-dried soy granules are almost impossible to dry evenly, so they crumble and can grow mould in the box. Is tofu cat litter good?
For most homes, yes — with honest trade-offs. Is tofu litter safe for cats?
For healthy cats, yes — it's made from food-grade plant fibre with no added dyes in our formulas. Is tofu litter bad for cats?
We're not aware of evidence that properly used tofu litter harms cats — but there are two things to manage. First, moisture: plant litter left damp for weeks can grow mould, so scoop daily and store the bag sealed and dry. Second, snacking: a cat that repeatedly eats litter (any litter) should see a vet, since that can signal pica or a dietary issue. Neither is unique to tofu litter — they're just good litter-box hygiene.
Can cats eat tofu litter?
They shouldn't — it's litter, not food. That said, if a curious cat swallows a small amount, plant-fibre litter is generally a less worrying accidental snack than clumping clay, which is one reason many kitten fosters prefer it. Discourage the habit, offer play and food puzzles instead, and if your cat eats litter repeatedly or in quantity, book a vet visit to rule out an underlying cause.
Can cats be allergic to tofu litter?
True allergies appear uncommon, but any material can bother an individual cat, and some cat parents report sensitivities to soy or pea fibre. Watch for sneezing, watery eyes, itchy skin or paw-licking after a litter switch. If you see them, switch back and reintroduce slowly, or try a different plant base. Is tofu cat litter safe for kittens?

Wait until kittens are steady on their feet (around 4 weeks, and no litter is a substitute for supervision), use a shallow tray, and skip heavily perfumed litters of any kind. Do cats like tofu litter?
Most cats take to it well. The 1.5 mm granules are close to the fine, sandy texture cats naturally prefer, and they're soft on paw pads — something senior and declawed cats especially appreciate. Cats who have used clay their whole lives can be sceptical of any change, so transition gradually: mix about 25% tofu litter into the old litter and increase it over 7–10 days. Sudden full swaps are the main reason any new litter gets rejected.

Can I flush tofu cat litter?
Yes — in small amounts. Tofu litter is designed to break down in water, so a clump or two at a time can go down the toilet where your municipality allows it. Never tip in a whole tray at once, and skip flushing entirely if you're on a septic system or your city advises against it. Is tofu cat litter flushable?
Tofu litter is one of the few litter types that can genuinely be called flushable, because the plant fibre disperses in water rather than setting like cement (which is why clay must never go near a toilet). The honest caveats: small amounts only, municipal rules vary, and septic systems are a no. One more important distinction — this applies to tofu litter only. Cassava litter is not flushable and should go in the bin or green bin instead.
How do you flush tofu cat litter (the right way)?
Scoop the clump, drop one or two clumps — no more — into the bowl, let them sit for a minute or two to start breaking apart, then flush. If you scoop a multi-cat household's worth at once, bag the rest for the bin rather than pushing your plumbing. Is tofu cat litter biodegradable or compostable?
Yes — it's made of plant fibre and starch, so it biodegrades naturally, which is a genuine advantage over clay that sits in landfill indefinitely. Whether it can go in your green bin depends on your municipality: some Canadian cities accept pet waste in organics programs, many don't. Does tofu cat litter clump?
Yes — well-made tofu litter clumps quickly and scoops cleanly. Some, honestly. Tofu granules are light, so a few will ride out of the box on paws — less mess than clay dust, but you'll spot the odd granule nearby. Fixes that work: a litter mat at the box exit, a high-sided or top-entry box, and keeping depth to about 5–6 cm. How often should you change tofu cat litter?
Scoop clumps daily, top up as the level drops, and do a full change every 3–4 weeks for one cat (more often for multiple cats sharing a box). You'll know it's time when odour lingers after scooping or the granules look saturated. Compared with clay, tofu litter's fast clumping means you remove waste more completely at each scoop, which is what stretches the full-change interval.
How long does tofu cat litter last?
As a rule of thumb, one 2.4 kg bag lasts a single cat roughly two weeks with daily scooping, so a 2-pack covers about a month. Multi-cat homes scale down accordingly.
